Welcome to the Cell world~

Everything in our site was done by us but except 2 pictures that are in our main page. We really wanted to draw it, but it’s quite hard.  All the other pictures are drawn in Paint and Photoshop by us. We put a really hard work on it so hope you enjoy~=)

Did you know that you are made of cells? Well...every organism are made up of cells.  The cell is one of the most basic units of life.  There are millions of different types of cells.  The cell is the smallest unit of life in our bodies.  In the body, there are brain cells, skin cells, liver cells, stomach cells, and more.  Every one of them has different functions.

Nucleus- The nucleus is the most important part of the cell organelle. It controls the chemical reaction within the cytoplasm and store information needed for cellular division. Usually the nucleus is in a round shape and is the largest organelle in the cell.

Chloroplasts- Their function is to make glucose from carbon dioxide and water. To do this they need energy. They also have green chemical called chlorophyll.

Mitochondria- The mitochondria are known as “the powerhouse” of cells, cells need energy, this energy usually comes from the breakdown of glucose,  fats and proteins can be used a sources of energy.

Cell Membrane- The cell membrane keeps the in the organelles of the cell.  It is selectively permeable, it lets some things in and out.  Food, oxygen and water move into the cell through the membrane. Waste products also leave through the membrane.

Cell Wall- It is only found in plant cells. It is the outer part of the cell. It gives shape to the cell.  It is rigid and it is nonliving.

1. All living things are composed of one or more cells.
2. Cells are organisms' basic units of structure and function.
3. Cells come only from existing cells.

The cell theory was made from three German scientist's discoveries, Matthias Schleiden, Theodor Schwann, and Rudolph Virchow.
In 1838 the German Botanist Matthias Schleiden discovered that all plants were made of cells. Then a year later a German zoologist discovered the all animals were made of cells. Later in 1855 a German physician named Rudolph Virchow found that all cells come from other existing cells. But the first found of the cells
was an English scientist, Robert Hooke in 1663. He discovered cells in a piece of cork with his primitive microscope. He only observed cell walls because the cork cells are dead. Hooke drew the cells he saw and also named the word CELL. The word cell is come from the Latin word 'cellula' that means small compartment.
